Held at the Palatine pool in Blackpool this new masters event consists of longer distance events of 400m IM, as well as 800m and 1500m freestyle.

The swims follow the usual masters format so that swimmers are competing against people in their own age group.

A number of Dolphins took part in the event with Graham Padgett and Judy Brown both taking first places in the 800m Free style (10:57 & 10:14) and gruelling 400IM (6:10 & 5:38) events , setting new competition records in the process.

Billy Dutton also swam in the 800m free (15:01) and 400m IM (8:46) swims, finishing second in his age group in both events.

Mandy Reid is fast become a seasoned competitor, finishing second in the 1500m event with a time of 32 mins 42s.

British Masters June 2011

Russ Mason, Judy brown and Gerry Kelleher represented the Dolphins in the GB Masters at the long course pool in Leeds.

Russ came away with 1st in the 200m Backstoke (2:37) and 4th in both the 200m IM (2:38) and 50m Freestyle (28s).

Despite feeling under the weather Judy matched Russ' great swimming with 1st and 4th places of her own in the 200m Backstroke (2:47) and 50m Freestyle (31s).

Gerry competed in the 200m Fly and came second in his age group with a time of 3:15. While many of us would be pleased just to complete this disctance on fly, Gerry is his own worst critic and has vowed to improve on this time in Blackpool in a couple of weeks, muttering something about swimming donkeys??
